Overview of NCAA D3 Athletics

Before diving into the specifics of how D3 sports recruiting works, it is essential to have a solid understanding of the D3 level as a whole.

What is the D3 level?

The NCAA Division 3 (D3) level is home to 400+ institutions and boasts a wide range of sports opportunities for student-athletes. Much like other levels of college athletics like D1 and D2, D3 programs usually attract driven and passionate individuals who are dedicated to their sport. However, D3 student-athletes have a unique opportunity to compete at a high level while still maintaining a true balance with their academics and personal life.

It is important to note that D3 schools do not offer athletic scholarships (more on this later) instead focusing on providing student-athletes with a well-rounded college experience. This does not mean you have to pay full price for school, just that D3 schools prioritize academics, empowering student-athletes to excel both in the classroom and on the field.

You will normally play your games in a closer geographic area and do not have to come back to campus during the summer, which allows D3 athletes to engage in a full college life. D3 schools have a wide range of admissions selectivity and do not require registration with the NCAA Eligibility Center rather each campus determines their own eligibility requirements. Check with your school counselor regarding standardized testing requirements as they vary.
